Obituary

Steven E. Groom, 62, of Rose Hill, Kansas, passed away early Sunday morning, September 8, 2019 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Born August 11, 1957 in Winfield, he was the son of Don and Verle (Marsland) Groom. He was raised and received his early education in Skiatook, Oklahoma and moved with his family to Ringling, Oklahoma where he graduated high school in 1975. Following high school, he joined the United States Air Force and served three years. He was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita when he received his honorable discharge. He then began working at Boeing where he remained for eight years before beginning his career at Cessna.

Steve was united in marriage to JoJean Coleman on May 7, 2008 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Rose Hill. He remained at Cessna for over 21 years and was currently working as an Engineer. He loved riding his trike. He also enjoyed fishing, country music, and old western movies.

His family includes his wife JoJean Groom of Rose Hill; his step-children, Tim Coleman and wife, Shawna of Wichita; Christopher Coleman and wife, Faith of Wichita; Aaron Coleman and fiancé, Coco of Wichita; his mother Verle Groom of Douglass; his siblings, Cindy Sellers and husband, Jerry of Ada, OK; Clifford Groom and wife, Louise of Skiatook, OK; Charles Groom and wife, Gerry of Owasso; Sandra Bass of Douglass; his grandchildren, Triston Coleman, Trevon Coleman, Lily Coleman, Kati Lynn, Ayle Coleman, Charlie Jo Coleman, Christopher Apollos Coleman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Steve was preceded in death by two brothers, Don E. Groom and Robert Groom, and a brother-in-law Sam Bass.

Graveside funeral services with Military Committal Honors will be held Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Wilmot Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Miles Funeral Service from 9:00 to 10:00 that morning.

A memorial has been established in Steve's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
