Steven Beryle Gates, 68, formerly of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday night, July 29, 2023, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Born May 31, 1955, in Cordell, Oklahoma, he was the son of Beryle Leroy and Mary Louise (Smith) Gates.  Steven was raised and received his education in Wichita, Kansas and enlisted in the United States Army in 1972.  Steven served in the Medical Corps for the Army both stateside and overseas for 22 years until his retirement in 1994.

After retiring from the Army, Steven became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked in healthcare and home health services for many years.

He enjoyed volunteering and serving his community.

Survivors include his son James Gates of Hampton, VA; brother Robert Gates of Broken Arrow, OK; and nephew Andrew Petering of Lawton, OK

Graveside Services with Military Committal Honors will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma.
