Obituary

STEPHEN W. LARSON, 69, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 26, 2012 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.

Born on December 14, 1942 in Tescott, Kansas, he was the son of G. Alvin and Mary (John) Larson. He was raised and received his education in Tescott and graduated from Tescott High School in 1960. Stephen attended Washburn University for 1 year and later graduated from Ft. Hays University with a degree in business.

He was united in marriage on August 14, 1965 to Georgia E. Riffe in Stockton, Kansas. The couple lived in Pratt and Salina, Kansas before making their home in Winfield. They purchased the Gambles store which they owned for 3 years and later purchased the Barbeque Pit which they owned for 3 years. Stephen was employed at Rubbermaid for 11 years in shipping and receiving.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Stephen was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge in Minneapolis, Kansas and the Order of the Eastern Star in Winfield. He had served as an Exalted Ruler of the Winfield Elks. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, his pets and enjoyed remodeling houses.

His sons: Jeff Larson and wife Marcia of Lenexa, KS; and Brad Larson and wife Jennifer of St. Paul, MN;
His brothers: Gerald Larson and wife Melanie of Raytown, MO; and Duane Larson and wife Phyllis of Topeka, KS;
His sisters: Phyllis Trow of Salina, KS; and Carol Jean Larson of Kansas City, MO;
His grandchildren: Sean and Logan Larson; and Collin and Oliver Larson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Christian, Larry, Victor, Perry, Roger and Graham; and his sister, Norma Elliott.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 30, 2012. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.

Memorials have been established in Stephen's name for the First United Methodist Church and the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
