STANLEY F. PIEL, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, October 2, 2008 at his home.
Born on August 23, 1925 in Wilmington, Deleware, he was the son of Stanislaw and Leokadya (Gosciniak) Pielechowicz. He was raised and received his education in Wilmington.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Piel proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Stanley received a star in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and also one in the Philippines Liberation. He attended the California Myers School of Aeronautics in Inglewood, California.
He was united in marriage on October 9, 1953 to Margaret L Herren in Rapid City, South Dakota. The couple made their first home in Lancaster, California. In 1962 the couple moved to Winfield. He was a lifetime employee with General Electric in the jet engine division.
Stanley was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling and reading.

His daughters: Linda Snyder of Cedar Vale, KS; and Cynthia Radcliff and husband Byron J. of Steamboat Springs, CO;
His sisters: Ann Ptak, Irene Gorski and Honey Niedbalski all of Wilmington, DEL;
His grandchildren: Brianna Avers, Samuel Piel and Byron W. Radcliff; and
His great-granddaughter: Violet Avers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Steven Pielechowicz; and his sister, Stephanie Lang.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 6, 2008 at Miles Funeral Service. Military committal honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield.
A memorial has been established in Stanley's name for the Cowley County Historical Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
