Obituary

STANLEY "STAN" BECKER, 87, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, March 5, 2013 at Good Samaritan Village.

Born December 22, 1925 in Winfield, Stan was the son of Albert Earl and Alba (Stewart) Becker. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating Winfield High School in 1942.

In 1943, Stan entered the United States Navy. He served as a Seaman 2nd Class in Aviation Ordinance. He was promoted to Seaman 1st Class shortly before his honorable discharge in 1946.

Mr. Becker was united in marriage to Barbara Cranston on May 21, 1950 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Stan worked as a diesel mechanic for Santa Fe Trailway for over 40 years. After retiring, he went to work for Webster Engineering for ten years and retired again.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Winfield. Stan was also a member of the International Association of Machinist and had obtained his 60 year pin. As a young man, Stan enjoyed fishing and camping. He enjoyed watching TV and fixing and tinkering with things around the house. He especially liked reading biographies and history and spending time with his family.

His family includes:
His wife: Barbara of Winfield;
His son: Martin Becker and wife, Joan of Omaha, Nebraska;
His daughter: Paula Becker of Topeka, Kansas;
His grandchildren: Matthew T. Becker and Dustin B. Becker both of Omaha, Nebraska; and
His great grandchildren: Devin Michael, Molly Nicole and Hunter James Becker, and their mother, Jennifer Becker all of Omaha, Nebraska.

In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth B. and A. Keith Becker, and his sisters, Aileene Sharp and Ruth Williams.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Stan's name for the American Heart Association and for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
