Soloman "Sol" Finley, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, October 17, 2021, at Cumbernauld Village.

Born October 16, 1939, in Kirk, Mingo County, West Virginia, he was the son of Herbert and Leah (Nelson) Finley. He was raised in Ethel, West Virginia and received his education in Logan. Sol joined the United States Air Force in 1959. He proudly served his country as an airplane mechanic and received an honorable discharge in 1963.

Sol was united in marriage to Billie Lou Goode on December 29, 1962, in Wellington, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Arkansas City. They had three sons, Jeffery Kent, Gregory Allen, and Richard Clark. Sol worked for the City of Winfield in the power plant for several years. Billie preceded him in death on April 13, 2013. Sol enjoyed bluegrass, playing the banjo, ham radio, and playing golf.

His family includes his son Richard Finley of Harrisburg, PA; his grandchildren, Chris Finley of Arkansas City; Lucas Finley of Kansas City, MO; Francesca Finley of Winfield; his great granddaughter Nora Saige Finley of Kansas City, MO; and a brother Bruce Finley of Ethel, WV.

In addition to his parents and wife, Sol was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey Kent and Gregory Alan Finley, and siblings, Ethel Scott, Faye Finley, Thelma Ingrahm, Ann Toney, and Fred Finley.

Private services will take place at Round Mound Cemetery in Cedar Vale under the direction of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.

A memorial has been established in Sol's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
