Shirley Anne Sharp, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, March 5, 2019 at Winfield Senior Living.
Born April 27, 1935, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of John Shrader and Eddie Mae (Snapp) Riley. She was raised and received her early education in Oklahoma and moved with her mother to Winfield, Kansas, in 1945. She continued her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1954. Following high school, she worked as an elevator operator at the State Bank Building in Winfield. In 1958, she worked at Pomona Tile at Strother Field.
Shirley was united in marriage to Roland Sharp on April 12, 1959, at the First Christian Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Shirley worked for the Winfield Daily Courier in the early 1970s and in 1975 began working as a custodian at Winfield High School, where she remained until retiring in 1980.
She was a life-long member of the First Christian Church in Winfield. She enjoyed collecting a variety of things including bottle openers, toy cars, and train sets. She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel, making several trips to Honolulu, Hawaii. She enjoyed attending the Walnut Valley Festival for over 25 years.
Her family includes her husband, Roland Sharp of Winfield; her son, Tim Sharp (Gage Church) of Topeka; her daughter, Terri (Greg) Fiske of Arkansas City; her stepbrother, Bill Locke of Bristol, VA; her grandchildren, Brandy Beach, Amber Flowers, Travis Beach, Chad Beach; and her great grandchildren, Taj Birde, Aonika Beach, Kamrie Perry, Abigail Flowers, Emily Flowers, Ilyssa Flowers, Anabel Beach, Adrick Beach, Jack Beach, Atlas Beach, and Coen Beach.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a sister Marjorie Ingerick.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will greet visitors that evening.
