Shirley Ann Mitchell Madison, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 5, 2015, at William Newton Hospital.
Born July 2, 1928 in Longton, Kansas, she was the daughter of B.F. and Eula (Dunn) Mitchell. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1946.
Shirley was united in marriage to Elmer L. Madison on July 4, 1947 in Winfield, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Winfield. Starting in 1950 the family lived in various parts of Kansas, Texas and Louisiana. In 1964 they returned to Winfield and Shirley worked at Binney and Smith. She later worked in bookkeeping for First National Bank and then as a commercial scheduler for KSOK radio.
After retiring Shirley and Elmer wintered in South Texas where they enjoyed camping, fishing and boating. Shirley also enjoyed sewing.

Her great-grandchildren: Tyler Moore; Brandon Moore; Mia Perkins; Hadlee Foutch; and Austen Perkins.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Russell and Alyssa Russell, two sisters, Bernice Ivie and Beatrice Hamlin, and three brothers, Francis Mitchell, Ross Mitchell, and Warren Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, March 9, 2015 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery south of Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 1:00 to 2:00. The family will greet visitors at that time.
Memorials have been established in Shirley's name for the American Cancer Society and for RiverCross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
