Obituary

Shirley Ann Hoover, 82, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, April 4, 2021 at Wesley Medical Center.

Shirley was born in Pennsylvania on September 3, 1938. She was raised and received her education in Pennsylvania. She moved to California at the age of 18 and worked as a character at Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. In 1975, she moved to Oklahoma where she worked as the night store manager for WalMart in Miami. Following retirement, she moved to Winfield, Kansas and later Burden, Kansas.

Shirley was of the Lutheran faith. She was a hard worker, sometimes working three jobs to support her family. She was a red head and displayed all the characteristics that go with it. She loved to dance and was a proper, fashionable, and outspoken lady. She enjoyed playing the slot machines and bingo. She was a master crocheter, inventing her own stitches and styles. She could look at something and recreate it with no pattern necessary. She especially loved her family.

Her family includes her daughters, Kathy McDermott and husband, Brad of Afton, OK; Billie Jo Crane and husband, Perry of Hugoton; her son Kevin Hoover of Grove, OK; her grandchildren, Tara Woods and husband, Kyle of Burden; Cameron Weaver of Pryor, OK; Phillip McDermott of Afton, OK; Miranda Weaver of Hugoton; and her great grandchildren, Kari, Lucas, Korbin, David, Brylee, and Jason.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.

The family will hold private funeral services under the direction of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas.

A memorial has been established in Shirley's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
