SHIRLEY B. BANNON, 86, of Douglass, Kansas, passed away Sunday night, March 1, 2009, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Born August 5, 1922, in Douglass, she was the daughter of Walter and Mary "Blanche" (Rosenberry) Young. She was raised in Douglass and graduated from Douglass High School.
Shirley was united in marriage to George Morton Bannon on November 22, 1941 in Udall. The couple made their first home in Douglass. George's career took the couple to many places before his retirement when they settled back in Douglass in 1981. Mr. Bannon preceded her in death on June 16, 2002.
Mrs. Bannon worked at Boeing Aircraft doing clerical work for 13 years. She then went to work for the United States Postal Service until retiring in the early 1990's. She also helped her husband with his horse training. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and loved taking care of the family.

Her son: George R. Bannon and wife, Lorrie of Douglass, KS;
Her grandchildren: George W. Bannon; Michele Ridder and husband, Rick; Raeford Bannon; and Shayne Bannon and wife, Jennifer;
Her 6 great-grandchildren; and
Numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a grandson, Ward Bannon.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Douglass Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 to 9. The family will greet visitors from 7 to 8 that evening.
A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Bannon's name for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
