Obituary

SHIRLEY A. BANKS, 67, of Udall, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, October 18, 2009 at Via Christi/St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.

Born on December 30, 1941 in Bunch, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Jim and Leonell (Davidson) Latta. She was raised and received her education in Bunch and graduated from Cave Springs High School in 1958.

She was united in marriage on June 10, 1960 to Paul Banks in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The couple lived in LeeRoy, Kansas where Shirley was a homemaker. They later moved to Louisburg, Kansas where she worked as a dental assistant in Kansas City. Shirley also was employed at the Louisburg High School as a secretary to the guidance counselor. The couple also lived in Neosho, Missouri and Howard, Kansas before moving to Udall, Kansas in 1973 where they have made their home. Shirley worked at Kistler's Service Station and the Bank Roll Café and later the Crescent Oil Company Jumpstart Station in Winfield. She retired in 2001.

She loved spending time with her family, reading, flowers and gardening.

Her 5 grandchildren: Cami Birdwell and husband Jeremy of Winfield, KS; Kennton Hoffman and wife Kyra of Udall, KS; Amy Foreman and husband James of Ardmore, OK; Tyler Hoffman of Winfield, KS; and Rendi Billiter and fiancee' Billy Enderud of Newkirk, OK;
Her 9 great-grandchildren: Gabby and Kirsten Birdwell; Emma, Kierran, and Lillian Hoffman, James Foreman IV, Mason and Selena Enderud, and Caydence Billiter;
Her brothers: Warren Latta of Bunch, OK; and Doyle Latta and wife Karen of Bunch, OK;
Her sister: Dawn Horton and husband Terry of Sallisaw, OK;
Her 6 nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and nephews; and
A host of friends and extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Tyson Hoffman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 23, 2009 at the Udall High School Gymnasium in Udall. Interment will follow at the Udall Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 22, 2009. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., that evening.

A memorial has been established in Shirley's name for the Via Christi/St. Francis Oncology Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
