Sheryl L. Payne, 69, of Newkirk, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 18, 2022, at Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor.

Born April 16, 1953, in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Donald and Ethel (Bonesteel) Davidson. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1971.

She was united in marriage to David Payne in 1983 in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Burden, before moving to the New Salem area. In 1996, they moved to Newkirk, Oklahoma. Sheryl made her career as a corrections officer for the Kansas Department of Corrections, retiring as a Sergeant in 2021.

She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She enjoyed all things horse related, especially her quarter horses.

In addition to her husband David, Sheryl is survived by many friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Private family services will take place at a later date under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.

A memorial has been established in Sheryl's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
