SHERMAN A. SIMMONS, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 28, 2012 at the Kansas Veteran's Home.
Born June 27, 1920 in West Virginia, he was the oldest of seven children born to Martin and Zeda Simmons. He was raised and educated in West Virginia until he entered the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Sherman moved to Illinois.
Sherman met and married Maxine Noles on June 20, 1960 in Shawnee Town, Illinois. The couple lived in Illinois for a while before moving to Kansas. They have lived in Winfield for 36 years.
Mr. Simmons was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a long time member of the Masons in Illinois.

His step-sons: James Lee Noles and wife Shirley of South Chicago Heights, IL; Larry Noles and wife, Sandra of McLeansboro, IL; Alan Noles and wife, Gloria of McCleansboro, IL; and Michael Noles of Stillwater, OK;
His grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Sherman was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral Services and Masonic Committal Rites will be held on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment and Military Committal will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening, August 30, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 7 that evening.
A Memorial has been established in Sherman's name for his grandson, Jason Noles' medical education. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
