Kay Demeritt-Mcmichael
August 25, 1946 – May 20, 2021
Formerly of Hooker, Oklahoma, resident Sharon "Sherry" Kay DeMeritt-McMichael, 74, passed away peacefully May 20, 2021, in Lubbock, Texas. Her final days were spent in the company of her children and their spouses while receiving comforting and loving messages from her friends and family.
Sherry was born August 25, 1946, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Glen Keith DeMeritt Sr. (1916-1982) and Mable Maxine Pinegar-DeMeritt (1919-1992) of Winfield, Kansas. Sherry is preceded in death by her siblings Gloria Ann DeMerritt-Morrison (1936-2001), Glenn Keith DeMeritt Jr. (1939-2002), and Ronald "Ronnie" Ray DeMeritt (1941-1991).
Sherry graduated from Greensburg High School in Greensburg, Kansas, in 1964 and completed cosmetology school in Garden City, Kansas. She also attended Oklahoma Panhandle State University, taking accounting and business courses. During Sherry's life, she worked as a cosmetologist in Guymon, Oklahoma; as a cook in the Hooker Schools' cafeteria; and as a bank teller at First National Bank of Hooker, from which she retired. Sherry also loved volunteering at the Hope Pregnancy Center in Guymon, Oklahoma. Sherry's faith in God was her foundation, and that faith could not be shaken. She was a creative and talented artist who enjoyed many types of crafts throughout her life such as sewing, painting, crocheting, tatting, and quilting.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Shannon René Rich-Castillo (Andy) of Edmond, Oklahoma; Shelley Ann Wisener (Shad) of Lubbock, Texas; and Richard "Rick" Dean McMichael Jr. (Aymee) of Hooker, Oklahoma; grandchildren Alyssa Robertson, Lane Henderson, Shelden Wisener, Corporal Shayne Wisener (USMC), Matthew McMichael, Kristian McMichael, and Madison McMichael; great-grandchildren Adelaide, Racen, and Emmalynn Robertson; special friends Joan Wayman, Karen McKee, Ethel Mae Carter, and Janie Kemp; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge, Kansas.
Memorial donations may be made to Hope Pregnancy Center in Guymon, Oklahoma. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
