Sharon Kay Bannon, 78, of Douglass, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 11, 2023, at her home.
Born August 3, 1945, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Virgil and Sarah "Sally" (Dobbs) Northcutt. She attended nursing school at the William Newton School of Nursing and graduated in May 1966. In August 1967, Sharon became a Registered Nurse.
She was united in marriage to Harold Eldon "Junior" Bannon, Jr. on December 16, 1966 in Arkansas City. Sharon worked at William Newton Hospital, for Doctor R.B. White, and was the Director of Nursing for the Heritage House in Winfield. She later worked for the Douglass School District as a nurse. She also was a partner owner and operator of Floyd's Upholstery. Junior preceded her in death on May 5, 2014.
Sharon attended Country View Baptist Church for many years. She later attended Rock Christian Church. She was a long time member of the K&O Steam & Gas Engine Association. She enjoyed embroidery, hand crocheting, trichem painting, and was an excellent cook. Her family's favorites include her zucchini cake, chex mix, cheese ball, and cookies. She raised farm animals and loved all birds, including chickens, ducks, turkeys, and guineas.
Her family includes her son Mark Bannon and wife, Chris of Caney; her daughter-in-law Loralee Bannon of Rose Hill; her grandchildren, Sarah, Noah, Amanda, and Kyle; her brother-in-law David Mavis of Newkirk, OK; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sharon was preceded in death by a son, Brett Bannon, sisters, Roxie Mavis and Lexy Edwards, and a brother-in-law Eddie Dean Edwards.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 2:00 P.M.at Miles Funeral Service. Private family burial will take place at Red Bud Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials have been established in Sharon's name for Cowley County 4H Shooting Sports and for the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
