Obituary

CLARENCE SCOTT REITER, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 21, 2010 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield after a lengthy illness.

Born on April 10, 1929 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Clarence Scott and Emma Edna "Peg" (Humble) Reiter. He was raised and received his education in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1948. He attended Southwestern College and Kansas State University.

A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Reiter proudly served his country in the United States Army Military Police. Following his honorable discharge in 1955 he returned to Winfield to farm and ranch.

Scott was united in marriage to Beverly Ruth Boswell on June 6, 1959 in Winfield. The couple owned and operated the Little Pirate Ranch and Scott had lived his entire adult life in the Akron community.

He had served as a board member on the Udall Co-op and the Cowley County FMHA, president of the Cowley County Livestock Association, director of the Kansas Livestock Association and a 55 year member of Farm Bureau.

Scott had served as a Cowley County Commissioner from 1976 to 1984. He was proud of the work they had accomplished during that time including establishing a Sanitation Code protecting ground water in the county, passing a program to replace unsafe bridges in rural areas and organized and funded rural fire districts.

He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield and the Oxford Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed snow skiing, spending time with his grandchildren and taking care of his lifestock.

His family includes:
His wife: Beverly;
His daughter: Renee and husband Milton Sanchez of Winfield, KS;
His grandchildren: Anne-Marie, Alex and Angela; and
Seven nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Peggy Lou Palmer and Patti Reynolds.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 29, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. The family will greet friends at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Sunday, November 28, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established in Scott's name for the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
