S.C. "WINDY" WOMACKS, 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 18, 2009 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Born on February 23, 1920 in Atlanta, Kansas, he was the son of Samuel Claude and Georgia Mae (Bright) Womacks. He was raised and received his education in Atlanta.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Womacks proudly served his county in the United States Army where he was part of the bomb squad and was also a Prisoner of War. He was honorably discharged on August 19, 1945.

S.C. was united in marriage on March 31, 1945 to Norma Jean Buchan in Winfield where the couple made their home. He was employed for Watson Oil Company and later was a self-employed truck driver. Mrs. Womacks preceded him in death on December 30, 2002.

S.C. was a member of the American Legion Post #10, Veterans of Foreign Wars #3544, and the Winfield Elks Lodge. His hobbies included hunting and visiting with friends.

His family includes:
His grandchildren: Michael Womacks of Winfield, KS; and Darren Womacks and wife Lisa of Albuquerque, NM;
His great-grandchildren; and
His sister: Grace Lowe of Winfield, KS.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Lee Womacks; his son, Donald Rex Womacks; his sister, Phyllis Sigler; and his brothers, Eugene and Donald Womacks.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, October 23, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Thursday, October 22, 2009.

A memorial has been established in Mr. Womack's name for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
