Sarah "Elaine" Moore, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, March 23, 2020 at her home surrounded by her eight children.
Born November 21, 1936 in Lucien, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of William and Lela Grace (Stafford) Keithley. She was raised and received her education in Burden, Kansas.
Elaine was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Moore, Sr. on July 29, 1955 in Winfield. The couple moved many places with Kenny's career, but always returned to Winfield. Elaine began working at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center as a nurse's aide and later worked in manufacturing at Cessna. She returned to the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center where she worked in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy helping to design and manufacture specialized equipment, including wheelchairs, beds, and tables. She remained at the state hospital until retiring in 1998. After retiring, she partnered with a group in starting Kansas Specialty Services. Mr. Moore preceded her in death on October 28, 1990.
She enjoyed painting, reading, playing casino games, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her family includes her children, Kenneth L. Moore, Jr. of Winfield; Dennis W. Moore of Winfield; Charles W. "Bill" Moore and wife, Holly of Winfield; Timothy L. Moore of Winfield; Kristina G. Platter and husband, Doug of Winfield; Robin R. McCoy of Winfield; Angela K. Jones and husband, Gerald "Jr." of Winfield; Melinda M. "Mindy" Bidwell and husband, Matt of Winfield; and her 28 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, too many to count.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elaine was preceded in death by four brothers, Clifford, Don, Kenneth, and Gary Keithley, and a sister Diane Hahn.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 28, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Elaine's name for Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
