Obituary

Sara Ann "Sally" Lawson, 73, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday night, October 16, 2020 at Via Christ St. Joseph Hospital.

Born October 3, 1947 in Hot Springs, South Dakota, she was the daughter of Kenneth "Jess" and Anna (Davis) Johnson. She was raised and received her education in Arkansas. Following high school, Sally attended Russellville Tech in Russellville, Arkansas where she received her Early Childhood Education Certificate. Sally worked as a driver for Meals on Wheels, as well as a barmaid, and helped in daycare. She later worked as a custodian at Southwestern College.

She was united in marriage to LeGrande "Rock" Lawson on December 3, 1994 in Ozark, Arkansas. The couple made their home in Winfield. Sally took on the career of homemaker as well as caregiver for her parents and husband. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Rock preceded her in death on March 11, 2018.

She enjoyed painting, embroidery and cross-stitch, reading, music, and hosting dance parties. She also enjoyed baking, especially her famous lemon bars. She loved her animals and spending time with her family.

Her family includes her daughters, Sandra (Dale) Postelwait of Geuda Springs; Stephanie (Tommy) Kerns of Sterling, VA; her son Daniel "Danny" (Sheila) Ratledge of Thornton, CO; her step-son Duane (Krista) Lawson of Harrisonville, MO; her sister Jeanie (Richard) Keiter of Haysville; her grandchildren, Cassara (Justin) Mullennax, Chelsie (Kevin) Nyambati, Chantelle St. Clair, Corin (Braxton) McNight, Lacey (Daniel) Hughes, Anson Postelwait, Zachary (Alejandra) Kerns, Alexander Kerns, Merissa Ratledge, Wendi (Jake) Donaldson, Kalei Ratledge, Rebecca Ratledge, Jeffrey Ratledge, Zach Ratledge, Gabe Ratledge, Mikey Ratledge, Trevor Rateldge, Elijah Ratledge, Cade Ratledge, Brodie (Cheyenne) Ratledge, Bryson Ratledge, Brody Lawson; her great grandchildren, Avery, Addilynn, Kayleigh, Lane, Riley, Emmah, Olivia, Meredith, Eleanor, Carrington, Jackie, Everett, and Kolton; her best friend of 38 years Cherryl Keech; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sally was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth, Arthur, William, and Daniel Johnson, and two grandchildren, Jayson Daniel and Stephen Micha.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 P.M. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 that afternoon. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Sally's name for Winfield Isle of Lights. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
