Obituary

Sandra “Sandy” Sue McAtee, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 6, 2026, at her home.

Sandy was born on June 27, 1943, in Ellsworth, Kansas to Dan and Lillian (Deming) Urbanek. She spent her childhood in Ellsworth, graduating from Ellsworth High School. She then received her Associate’s degree from Barton County Community College.

On September 1, 1961, she married Patrick McAtee, who survives of the home.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Pat; her sons, Dan (Chass) McAtee of Frisco, TX; and Darin (Millie) McAtee of York, SC; grandchildren, Seth, Alexis, Connor, Rylee, Ruth, Patrick, Charles (Boone), and Lilly; and great granddaughter Mercy.

In addition, Sandy leaves behind her sister Rita (Ralph) Naegele of Troy, OH; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Lillian Urbanek.

Sandy was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield. She was the church secretary for seven years. Prior to that, she was a legal secretary for Foulston Siefkin in Wichita, Kansas. She was a member of Holy Name Altar Society, Theotokes, and a member of P.E.O., Chapter CU, Winfield. She was a devout Catholic and was very active in church activities.

The Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Holy Name Catholic Church under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. A luncheon will follow at Parish Hall. Burial will take place at Ellsworth Cemetery in Ellsworth, Kansas on Friday afternoon at 3:30 PM. The Rosary will be prayed on Thursday evening at 7 PM at the church.

Memorials have been established in Sandy’s name for Holy Name Catholic School and for Cowley County Community College. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
