Sandra Jo Berwert, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, February 21, 2022, at William Newton Hospital, with family by her side.

Born November 29, 1940, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Harvey F. and M. Helen (Carlton) Porter. She was raised and received her education in Winfield and was a member of the Winfield High School class of 1958.

Sandra was united in marriage to Ronald L. Berwert on August 3, 1959, at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Valley Center and moved back to Winfield in 1965. They had two children, Debra and Jamie. Sandra was a homemaker and housewife while her children were very young. She then began her career in the meat department, first at King's Grocery, then Sheneman's and finally at Dillons. She worked at Dillons over 33 years before retiring. Ron preceded her in death on August 12, 2021.

Sandra enjoyed QVC shopping and coloring. In her earlier years, she found herself at the drag strip every Sunday with the family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and teaching them Keno and scratch tickets, watching movies and playing board games.

Her family includes her daughters, Deb Kittelson and husband, Jim of Winfield; Jamie Roland of Wichita; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Ross) Delaney and husband, Travis of Ponca City, OK; Michelle (Ross) McCullough and husband, Dennis of Winfield; Alek Roland and HaLee Roland, both of Wichita; her great grandchildren, Isaiah and KyLeigh McCullough of Winfield; Kalyn, Emma, Tatum, and Benjamin Delaney all of Ponca City, OK; her brothers, Don Porter and Ken Porter; and her sisters, Norma Hayden, Carol Runnells, Andrea Shepherd, and Helen Ann Dickerson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sandra was preceded in death by a son-in-law Curtis L. Roland, brothers, Tom, Leonard, and Phil Porter, and sisters, Dorothy Placette, Juanita Gottlob, Myrtle Barker, and Agnes Winslow.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

Memorials have been established in Sandra's name for the American Heart Association and for the American Lung Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
