Obituary

Samuel James “Jim” Redington, 97, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, April 2, 2026, at his home.

Born September 26, 1928, in Grenola, Kansas, he was the son of Leonard and Olive (Weaver) Redington. He graduated high school, and attended two years of college at St. John’s College, then attended Southwestern College. Directly after high school, Jim worked for the fire department and drove the #2 truck. He joined the United States Air Force and served in Okinawa and Guam. Jim received an honorable discharge.

Jim was united in marriage to Corabelle “Corky” Humbert on April 1, 1949, in Gulfport, Mississippi. The couple made their home in Winfield until moving to Colorado in the 1960’s, but returned to Winfield in the late 1970’s. Jim made a career as a banker, serving as loan officer and vice president for a number of banks in Winfield and Colorado. He also worked in the maintenance department at the Nuclear Power Plant in Colorado. He owned and operated two service stations in Winfield, and worked for the Cowley County Sheriff’s office as a Jailer, as well as was a greeter at Wal-Mart. Corky preceded him in death on March 30, 2025.

Jim was active in the Christian Church in Winfield and Denver. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #10. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, building and flying model airplanes. Jim was a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful friend.

His family includes his children, Kenneth Duane Redington; Leah Diane Bromlow and husband, Donald; grandchildren, Cassie Redington, Amber Horton, Cayla Chacon and husband, Mangin; great grandchildren, Blakely Shae Horton and Royce Chacon; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by a granddaughter Crystal Ann Redington, a brother John Redington, and a sister Betty Luce, and an infant sister Viola Mae Redington.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 9, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church in Winfield under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Private burial will take place at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Jim’s name for the First Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
