Sally Jo Butters, 70, of Loudon, Tennessee, passed away Monday, August 17, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Sally, also known as Sass, was born September 21, 1955, in Pensacola, Florida. She was the daughter of Harold and Patsy Lou (Smith) Steadham. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, Kansas, graduating from Winfield High School in 1971. On January 4, 1972, she married her high school sweetheart, Steven Michael Butters. The couple called many places home during Steve’s career, including Winfield, KS; Emporia, KS; Prairie Village, KS; Bryant, AR; Salina, KS; Jersey City, NJ; Wilton, CT; Tokyo, Japan, and Shanghai, China, and finally retired to Naples, Florida. Steve preceded her in death on August 6, 2020 and Sally moved to Tellico Village in Loudon, TN to be closer to her brother, Mark. Steve and Sally thoroughly loved their time in Asia and made life-long cherished friendships.
Sally thoroughly enjoyed going to fine restaurants and savoring a perfect filet with a glass of fine wine with family and friends. Sally loved watching a good football game and was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan. Throughout her life, Sally loved a good “lake day”, whether it be at Lake Martin, AL or at Tellico Village. She loved cruising around on her jet ski (and water skiing back in the day) and watching beautiful sunsets on the water.
During her last few years of battling cancer, you would frequently see her enjoying the most perfectly “freezer cold” Coke while tapping on her iPad, coloring the prettiest pictures. She even taught herself how to crochet and mastered washcloths.
Sally is survived by her children Bo (Cyndi) Butters of Belleville, IL; Jonathan (Jennifer) Butters of Kansas City, MO; Betsy (Seph) Bellerive of Spring Hill, KS; her siblings, Harold Wayne (Diane) Steadham; Liza Ben Vaughn; Mark (Debbie) Brendan; and her grandchildren, Olivia and Eli Butters, Sydney and Stella Butters, and Emily Jo and Audrey Bellerive.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother-in-law David Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Sally’s name for the Winfield Area Habitat for Humanity. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
