RUTH ANN WENGELER, 75, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, February 26, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 28, 1936 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Ralph and Mary Kathryn (Gill) Reed. At the age of 3 months, she and her family moved to Kansas. As a young girl Ruth helped on the family farm feeding chickens, milking cows and churning butter. As a teenager she worked at Backus Drug Store and Curley's Inn as a car hop. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1954.
She was united in marriage to Jimmy M. Bowlin in December of 1953. To this union 4 sons were born, James Charles, Mike, Steve and Bill. Her boys were her heart. They lived in Alabama, Florida and Tennessee before returning to Kansas. Jimmy M. Bowlin preceded her in death in 1992.
Ruth met Francis Wengeler and the couple was united in marriage on October 2, 1993 in Winfield. They traveled to 48 states as well as Mexico and Canada. Francis retired from trucking due to an injury and the couple began gardening.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield where she was actively involved in several activities and groups. Her hobbies included quilting, crafts, ceramics, cross stitch, bowling and attending Bluegrass.

Her daughters: DeAnn Titus and husband Will of Newton, KS; Paulette Bentz and husband Allan of Billings, MT; and Claudette Hohn and husband Brian of Townsend, MT;
Her brothers: Robert Reed of Winfield, KS; Maynard Reed and wife Shirley of Arkansas City, KS; and Marshall Martin and wife Lola of Winfield, KS;
Her sister-in-law: Linda Thomas of Park City, KS; and
Her 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son Michael Bowlin, her brother Phillip Martin and her sister-in-law Betty Reed.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 2 , 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Miles Funeral Service. The family will be present during that time.
A memorial has been established in Ruth's name for the Calee Belair Education Fund at CornerBank. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
