Ruth A. Sparks, 96, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday afternoon, August 20, 2018 at Winfield Senior Living.

Born May 13, 1922 in Winfield, she was the daughter of Nathaniel "Mood" and Amanda (Taylor) Archer. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1941. After school she went to work as a riveter at Beech Air Craft to help with the war efforts.

Ruth was united in marriage to Henry Lee Sparks on September 3, 1944 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield where Ruth was a devoted homemaker. They were members of the First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield. After Henry retired the couple moved to Pueblo, Colorado and later, Canyon. They remained in Colorado for 18 years before returning to Kansas as a result of health concerns. Mr. Sparks preceded her in death on May 6, 2013.

Recently Ruth had attended Central Baptist Church in Winfield. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, working on houses and taking care of and spending time with her family and grandkids.

Her family includes her daughters, Marilyn Suzanne Ham of Winfield; Martha Lee King of Oxford; Frances Yvonne Butler of Topeka; her 10 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her son Charles Nathaniel Sparks, two grandchildren, Teresa Ramsey and Michelle King, and a great grandchild Abbey Moody.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 27, 2018 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Sunday afternoon August 26, 2018 from 2 P.M. to 5 P.M. The family will greet visitors that afternoon.

A memorial has been established in Ruth's name for Winfield Senior Living. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
