Ruth was born March 25, 1924, in rural Fredonia, to Joe and Minnie (King) Chisham. She lived and worked on her parents' farm until she married Ed Landwehr in 1942. She continued living there while Ed served in World War II for four more years. When he returned from the service, the couple and their two young children lived in Fredonia until a short stay in Baytown, Texas. In 1954, they returned to Kansas and lived in El Dorado and Howard until their move to Winfield in 1958. Following this move, Ruth began providing childcare for Winfield families for the next forty five years, while raising seven of her own children.
She was an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church where she attended and volunteered from the time of her move to Winfield. Girl Scouts became an interest of hers when her daughters were in Scouts, and she became active in an adult Scout group that provided her with fun and friendship. For many years, she hosted and planned her Chisham/Kelsey family reunion in Fredonia. She delighted in gardening, yard sales, baking, the Kansas Newman Renaissance Faire Sweet Shoppe, flea markets, and traveling, all while enjoying her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ed, a son, Alan, a daughter, Connie (Landwehr) Rausch, a grandson, Ben Rausch, her sisters, Helen Maloney, Mable Brown, Edith Hendry, Kathleen Sissom, and brothers, Guy Kelsey, Harry Kelsey, Ray Kelsey, Lloyd Chisham, Lawrence Chisham, and Fred Chisham.
Survivors include son, Wayne, of Independence, and daughters Shirley Walker, Winfield, Marjorie Landwehr-Brown, Douglass, Catherine, Wichita, and Annette, Winfield. Grandchildren surviving are Hans and Brock Landwehr, Michael and Steve Rausch, Becky Moburg, Matt, Nick, and Gretchen Walker, Jared and Derrick Landwehr-Brown, Ed Swanson, Scarlett Dickson, Jakob Brown, Rocky Landwehr, Madison Bluma, and Alan Landwehr, as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Her motherly and grandmotherly presence will be greatly missed.
