Ruth May Hatcher, 78, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away early Saturday morning, April 28, 2018 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Born April 17, 1940 in Arkansas City, she was the daughter of James Arthur and Rena Edith (Myers) Dickson. She was the youngest of 11 children and was raised and educated in Arkansas City.
She was united in marriage to Gilbert Hatcher on July 20, 1957 at Foursquare Church in Arkansas City. The couple made their home in Arkansas City for their entire 61 years of marriage. Ruth worked as a panel wirer at Gordon-Piatt at Strother Field for 23 ½ years. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She was known for her potato chip cookies and pinto bean pie.
Her family includes her husband Gilbert of Arkansas City; her children Darrell Eugene Hatcher and wife, Sarah of Valley Center, CA; Yvonne Stone and husband, Brian of Dexter; her brother Frankie Lee Dickson and wife, Andrea of Arkansas City; and her five grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a son Phillip Lee Hatcher, four sisters, Etta Florence Wilson, Helen May Dickson, Alice Lucille Arthur, and Jessie Lee Shook, and her five brothers, Raymond Lee Dickson, Clarence Richard Dickson, James Alfred Dickson, William Robert Dickson, and John Arthur Dickson.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Ark City First Assembly of God Church. A private family inurnment will take place at Parkerfield Cemetery at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Ruth's name for Ark City First Assembly of God Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
