RUTH O. FINLEY, 76, of Winfield, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 16, 2009 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.

Ruth was born September 2, 1932, Akron, Kansas to Harry Leo and Florence Melissa (Reuther) Ireton. She was raised in the Akron community, and lived there most of her life. She was a 1950 graduate of Winfield High School. She married Jack Owen Finley on March 12, 1950, and together, they celebrated over 59 years of marriage. They were blessed with two sons and a daughter.

Ruth worked at Anthony's clothing store, and had also been a bookkeeper at Hittle Service and Finn's Electric for a number of years, retiring from Finn's Electric in 1993.

Ruth attended Grandview United Methodist Church for many years, and had also been an active member of the Akron 4-H, and the Stitch and Chatter Club. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, gardening, freezing and canning vegetables, and baking brownies to share with friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Harry Gene Ireton, and a sister, Julia Ann Lindley.

Her two sons: Richard Finley and wife, Sharon of Winfield; and Rex Finley and wife, Nancy of Winfield;
Her daughter: Cathy Hamlin and husband, Steve, of Douglass;
Her two brothers: Robert Ireton of Winfield; and Jim Ireton of Littleton, CO;
Her 6 grandchildren: Jane Barker and husband, Zach of Atlanta; June Neal and husband, Eric of Winfield; Joy Vetter and husband, Tarl of Wichita; Jo Ann Hamlin of Iowa City, IA; Renae Piper and husband, Jon of Siloam Springs, AR; and Aaron Finley and wife, Chanda of Piedmont, OK; and
Her two great-grandchildren: Baylee Barker and Abe Piper.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday morning, July 20, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Grandview United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Akron Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 6 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4.

A memorial has been established in Mrs. Finley's name for Grandview United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
