Russell L. Leffew, 52, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, January 23, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
Born June 10, 1968 in Chanute, Kansas, he was the son of Harold and Florence (Knuckey) Leffew. He was raised and received his education in Winfield.
Russell was united in marriage to Joleigh Burr on March 21, 1987 at IXL Baptist Church in Arkansas City. The couple made their home in Winfield. Russell worked for several years driving both concrete trucks and as an over-the-road truck driver, working for Wellington Ready Mix, Greif Brothers, El Dorado Trucking Company, and Daniels Ready Mix. In 2001, he began working for the City of Winfield in the Street Maintenance Department. He remained with the city for 20 years.
Russell was an avid fisherman. He had many fishing partners and fished tournaments on the FLW, ABA, and USA Bassin circuits. He was also an auxiliary member of the VFW and American Legion. He loved coaching baseball and being a Boy Scout leader for troop 314. Russell especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
His family includes his wife Joleigh Leffew of Winfield; his children, Jennifer Wilson and husband, Jeff of Winfield; Russell J. Leffew of Winfield; Jaclyn Stoabs and husband, Kyle of Winfield; his brothers, Clayton Leffew and wife, Barb of Winfield; Alan Leffew of Wichita; Darrell Leffew and wife, Andie of Wichita; his sister Laura Williams and husband, David of Winfield; his grandchildren, Sarah Wilson, Alex Wilson, Jaxon Leffew, Averie Stoabs, Cade Stoabs; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by a brother Martin Leffew and a sister Alice Leffew.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
A memorial has been established in Russell's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
