Ruben Hernandez, Sr., 72, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, June 22, 2026, at Wesley Medical Center.

Born December 5, 1953, in Lubbock, Texas, he was the son of Lorenzo and Jesusa (Ramirez) Hernandez. He was raised and received his education in Wichita, joining Job Corps at the age of 16. Ruben enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1972 and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge.

He was united in marriage to Maria Socorro (Ramirez) Arriaga on August 7, 1992, at the Sedgwick County Court House in Wichita. The couple made their home in Wichita where Ruben worked at O’Reilly Auto Parts and also as a copy machine technician. He retired from Advance Auto Parts at the age of 67. Ruben enjoyed collecting coins, fishing, and using his mechanical abilities to fix up vehicles. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

His family includes his wife Maria Hernandez; his children, Ruben Hernandez, Jr. and wife Nicole; Sonya Hernandez; Ana Robinson; Maria Devorce and husband, Charles; Ricardo Arriaga; Javier Ramirez; and his 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ruben was preceded in death by his brothers Roy Hernandez and Robert Hernandez and a sister Sarah Lee (Hernandez) Moreno.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment with Military Committal Honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 PM. The family will greet visitors that evening.
