Ruben Garcia, 70, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, October 21, 2021, at his home.
Born February 27, 1951, in Arkansas City, he was the son of Alfred and Filomena (Hernandez) Garcia. He was raised and received his education in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1970.
In 1983 Ruben married Donna Hale. The couple made their home in Arkansas City and later divorced. Ruben began working at ADM Flour Mill in Arkansas City at a young age. He remained at the mill for over 33 years until his retirement.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Arkansas City, the Northwest Community Center, and the Early Bird Lions Club. Ruben enjoyed spending his time volunteering. He was very active in the Lions Club, serving in every local office including President. He also served as a Regional Officer, and particularly enjoyed volunteering for their firework stand and at the County Fair.
His family includes his daughters, Anna Van Dyke and husband, Aaron of Arkansas City; Ashley Czaplinski and husband, Clark of Arkansas City; his mother Filomena Garcia of Arkansas City; his brothers, Alfred Garcia, Jr. and wife, Mary of Arizona; Alexander Garcia and wife, Vivian of Arkansas City; his sisters, Teresa Krusor and husband, Mark of Winfield; Alberta Esquivel of Texas; his brother-in-law John Tapia of Winfield; his grandchildren, Alexis Van Dyke, Trevor Van Dyke, Cruz Czaplinski, and Ryder Czaplinski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruben was preceded in death by his father Alfred Garcia, a brother Arthur Garcia, a sister Shirley Tapia, and a sister-in-law Kathy Garcia.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Parker Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited on Monday evening, October 25, 2021, at 7:00 P.M. at the church. A viewing and visitation will be held at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, on Sunday, October 24, 2021, from 2 to 6 P.M.
A memorial has been established in Ruben's name for the Early Bird Lions Club in Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
