Roy Thompson, 90, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, July 26, 2021 at his home.
Born April 23, 1931 near Rose Hill, Kansas, he was the son of John J. and Filena (Ayres) Thompson. He was raised on farms near Udall, Kansas and graduated from Udall High School in 1949. He served his country in the United States Army.
Roy was united in marriage to Stella M. Doolittle on September 19, 1950 in Wichita. Roy worked 40 years for Santa Fe Railroad. Following retirement, Roy and Stella moved to Texas and then back to Topeka. Stella preceded him in death on April 26, 2013.
Roy enjoyed warm weather, old westerns, and playing cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with family.
His family includes his son Doug Thompson of Prattville, AL; his daughter Darcy Bonjour and husband, Karl of Chanute; his sister Arlena Ekstrom of Lewisville, TX; his grandchildren, Kimberly Swader and husband, Derek; Kevin Mullinix and wife, Kelly; and his great grandchildren, Carter, Camden, Kinsley, Caleb, Eliana, and Kyser.
In addition to his parents and wife, Roy was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Robert, and two sisters, Jean and June.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at Wilmot Cemetery north of Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Roy's name for Horizon Hospice in Chanute. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
