Roy Jesse Calbo, 70, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 19, 2019 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Born February 13, 1948 in Popua, New Guinea, he was the son of Humphrey and Sonja (VanEden) Calbo. He was raised and received his early education in San Antonio, Texas and graduated high school in California. Roy attended a junior college for a short time before entering the United States Army in 1968, beginning his military career. He served in the Army for 22 years, retiring as Master Sergeant, E8.

He was united in marriage to Nila Bradford on February 12, 1979 in Copperas Cove, Texas. The couple eventually made their home in Winfield. Roy worked for the Winfield Correctional Facility as well as the Cowley County Jail. He was very proud of his military service as well as his work at the prison and jail. He enjoyed being in the car club and especially enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

His family includes his wife Nila Calbo of Winfield; his children, Jessica Young and husband, James of Point Blank, TX; Devin Calbo and wife, Brianna of Tampa, FL; Adam Miller and wife, Danielle of Bakersfield, CA; his siblings, Sally Welch and husband, John of Westminster, CA; JoAnn Frank and husband, Chris of Missouri; and his 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Military Committal Honors and interment will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 6:30 that evening.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
