Obituary

ROXIE A. MOORE, 100, formerly of Burden and Cambridge, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, September 15, 2009 at the Riverview Manor in Oxford.

Roxie was born August 14, 1909, to Sallie (Jessee) and James Wheeler at their home in rural Rock. She attended Green Valley School in rural Rock, and graduated from Central Commercial Collage in Winfield with a major in business.

She and Harvey L. Moore married February 11, 1940 in Rock. The couple moved to rural Cambridge, Kansas, where they farmed and raised Angus cattle together until moving to Burden in 1973. Harvey preceded her in death in 1985. Roxie has lived in nursing facilities since August 2003.

Roxie recently celebrated her 100th birthday at Riverview Manor in Oxford with friends, family and a shower of cards from well-wishers.

In addition to farming and ranching, Roxie worked in many business offices throughout her career. She retired from Cowley County ASCS Office in the mid 1970's.

She was a member of the Burden United Methodist Church and the Cambridge Extension Home Unit. She was a faithful 4-H supporter. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, cooking and crafts.

Her family includes:
Her son: Harvey L. Moore, Jr., of Cambridge, KS;
Her brother: James Wheeler and wife Leta Beth of Rock, KS;
Her sister: Catherine Grigg of Louisville, KY;
Her grandchildren: Bart Moore and wife Lauree of Mt. Hope, KS; and Ryan Moore of Wichita, KS; and
Her great-grandchildren: Gavin of San Marcos, CA; and Connor and Quinn of Mt. Hope, KS.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, David L. Wheeler.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Burden United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Burden Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Roxie's name for the Burden United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent to the church at P.O. Box 172, Burden, KS, 67019 or made through the funeral home.
