Obituary

ROSE M. DEVORE, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, September 24, 2011 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.

Born on February 15, 1930 in Wellington, Kansas, she was the daughter of Harry Wells and Thelma Workman. She was adopted at birth by Beulah and Hugh Engelhardt. She was raised in Wellington and later Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1948.

She was united in marriage on September 8, 1948 to Earl Eugene "Jr." DeVore in Hackney, Kansas. The couple made their home in the Winfield area. Rose worked at Woolworths and later as a nurses aide at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She was employed at Binney & Smith Crayola and was a bus driver for USD #465. She received an LPN in Ponca City, Oklahoma and worked at the Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City and Winfield Resthaven. Rose became a member of the EMT Reserves and was also deputized and accompanied Earl on prisoner transports. She retired in 1995 and the couple traveled extensively. Mr. DeVore preceded her in death on October 29, 2009.

Rose was a member of First Baptist Church in Winfield, the Sweet Adelines and the Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered as a pink lady at William Newton Hospital and helped with the Friendship Meals program. She enjoyed playing cards, and visiting with friends at the senior citizen center.

Her family includes:

Her daughters: Diana DeVore and husband Trip Hogue of Kansas City, MO; and Cheryl Parkerson of College Station, TX;
Her 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren;
Her aunt: Verl Wesley of Winfield, KS and her daughters, Kathy & Jennifer;
Her uncle: Roy Workman of Oklahoma; and
Her cousins: Helen Seacat of Winfield, KS; and Ted & Lora Jean Wohlford of Oklahoma City, OK; and Jim Holly of CA: and
A host of other cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the First Baptist Church. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Winfield.

A Memorial has been established in Mrs. DeVore's name for Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
