RONALD FABIAN HOOD, 65, of Winfield passed away at his home on June 16, 2009.
Born February 14, 1944 in Herington, Kansas, he was the son of John Fabian and Emma Bertha (Bernhardt) Hood. He was raised and educated in Herington and graduated from Herington High School.
Ron enlisted in the United States Army on January 29, 1964 in the strike branch of Adjutant General Corps. He took basic training at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri and was transferred to Fort Gordon, Georgia. Ron was invited to the US Military Academy at West Point, but declined. He was honorably discharged on January 12, 1967 in Fort Hamilton, New York and was awarded the U.S. Army Good Conduct three times and the National Defense Ribbon.
After his service, Ron was a machinist for Beech Aircraft and a production planner for Cardwell Manufacturing both in Wichita. He later moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where he was a security and safety officer for over 20 years and managed a Salvation Army Store for 3 years. He served with the Army National Guard-Combat Engineers and Artillery in Kansas and Oklahoma for 4 years. He then moved to Larned, Kansas where he was employed at the Larned State Hospital until he moved to the Kansas Veteran's Home in May of 2002.
Ron was united in marriage to Sandra Marion in Wichita in 1971. The couple later divorced.
Ron was a very active member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the John Birch Society and the Society of Friends.

His 8 grandchildren and 1 step-grandchildren.
Private family services have taken place. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A Memorial has been established in Mr. Hood's name to help defray final expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
