Obituary

Ronald Edmond "Ronnie" Dust, 73, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, March 7, 2016 at his home.

Born November 21, 1942 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Edmond Martin and Flossie Annabelle (Byrd) Dust. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1960. He joined the United States Navy in 1961 and received an honorable discharge in 1965.

Ron was united in marriage to Patricia Day on January 1, 1966 in Winfield. The family made their home in Winfield and he began working at Cessna Aircraft. He later worked for Grief Brothers, Skyline, Cowley County road crew and LG Pike Construction. In 1988, he started his own excavating business where he remained until semi-retiring in 2006 when his son, Eli took over the business.

When Ron wasn't working, he was remodeling the family's first home, and then built their second home with lots of help from family and friends. In 1995, Ron and Patty moved to Frog Hollow and helped Eli and Kristi build their home.

He attended CornerStone Bible Fellowship. He enjoyed playing the guitar and helping his children with their remodeling, building and mechanical projects.

His son: Eli Dust and wife, Kristi of Winfield;
His daughter: Laina Bates and husband, Brett of Ponca City, OK;
His sisters: Marilyn Kelley of Wellington; Delores Harris of Wellington; and
His grandchildren: Elissa Hovey and husband, Jordan of Winfield; Dylan Dust of Winfield; Alia Dust of Winfield; Haley Bates of Ponca City, OK; Hannah Bates of Ponca City, OK; and Ty Bates of Ponca City, OK.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private family burial will take place at Tisdale Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Ron's name for the Kansas Veteran's Home in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
