Obituary

Ronald D. Jordan, 82, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018 at his home in Derby.

Born November 27, 1935 in Winfield, he was the son of Dale and Juanita (Ireland) Jordan.

Ronald served three years in the Kansas National Guard before joining the United States Army in 1956 as part of the "buddy system" with his best friends, George Kelly, Marion May, Hank Johnson, and Larry Fogerty. Ronald served three years in the army and following his honorable discharge returned to Winfield where he worked in the oil fields and construction. He was married to Ann Smith and to this union one daughter was born. Ronald also cared and helped raise Ann's four daughters, Sonja, Teresa, Denise, and Bobbi. The couple later divorced.

In 1968 Ronald went to work for the Winfield Fire Department. While working with the fire department he also worked part time as a truck driver for Daniels Ready Mix. He remained at the fire department for over 20 years retiring as Captain in 1991. Ronald had recently moved to live with his daughter in Derby.

He was a member of the American Legion Post # 10 in Winfield, Kansas. He enjoyed fishing, smoking cigars, and going to the casinos. He was a devoted father, dedicating his life to caring for his daughter.

His family includes his daughter Rhonda Dawe and husband, Tobie of Derby; His sister Judy Boatman and husband, Don of Winfield; his brother Bill Jordan and wife, Judy of Cameron, MO; and his grandson Gaylon Tuggle of Winfield.

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his three best friends, George Kelly, John Flattery, and Marion May.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at a later date. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday evening, September 12, 2018 from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Ronald's name for the American Legion Post #10 in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
