Ronald M. Cooley, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday afternoon, January 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.
Born May 17, 1942, in Winfield, he was the son of Vernon F. and Audine (Heimer) Cooley. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1960.
He was united in marriage to Brenda Calvin on March 20, 1959, in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Winfield. Ron began working at Boeing in Wichita and in 1968, the family moved to Haysville. He later started a custom combining business and in 1973, returned to Winfield and established his family farm north of town. In addition to custom combining and farming, in 1989 he began driving his own truck, hauling grain for local elevators. In 2005, he retired from farming and in 2010, retired from driving truck. Ron continued helping his family with harvest even after retirement. Ron and Brenda would have celebrated 65 years of marriage in March of this year.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield. He was on the board of the Winfield Coop and the Burden Fire District #3. He enjoyed reading and going to the lake with his family.
His family includes his wife of 64 years, Brenda Cooley of Winfield; his children, Rhonda Harding and husband, Randy of Winfield; Charles Cooley and wife, Tami of Winfield; Joyce Ireton and husband, Mike of Winfield; his sister Jean Antle of Mulvane; his brother Richard Cooley of Shawnee; his grandchildren, Bethany Graham and husband, Chris of Baldwin City; Natalie Tennant of Arkansas City; Melissa McCaslin and husband, Zach of Winfield; Ashley Chastain and husband, Matt of Winfield; Garrett Harding and wife, Jandi of Winfield; Greg Ireton and wife, Brie of Augusta; Kyle Cooley and wife, Anna of Winfield; Alicia Clark and husband, Shane of Clarksville, TN; Braden Shelton and wife, Kirstin of Winfield; and his 22 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a brother Vernon F. Cooley, Jr. and a sister Carolyn Swiler.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at First Church of the Nazarene under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Memorials have been established in Ron's name for the First Church of the Nazarene and for RiverCross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
