Obituary

Roland L. Williard, 89, of Cambridge, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, May 17, 2012 at the Joy Home in Oxford, Kansas.

Born July 7, 1922 in rural Burden, Kansas, he was the son of Guy and Mable (Miller) Williard. He attended the Mt. Vernon rural school, and later received his high school education at Dexter High School. While attending school he worked on several area farms.

Roland was united in marriage to LeeEtta Moss on February 28, 1941 in Winfield, Kansas. The family lived in the Mt. Vernon, Cambridge, Atlanta and Burden areas, where they farmed and ranched for over 70 years. While their children were young Roland served as a 4H leader. Mrs. Williard preceded him in death on September 30, 1997.

Roland served on many area boards, including, Harvey and Windsor Township Boards, and the Grouse and Silver Creek Water Shed Board. He enjoyed telling stories and visiting with friends and neighbors.

His family includes:
His son: Tom Williard and wife, Linda of Burden;
His daughter-in-law: Kathleen Williard of Atlanta;
His brother: Glen Williard;
His sisters: Ruth Osborn; Lois Harris; Lenora Knight; Bessie Johnson; Christine Peters;
His 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Roland was preceded in death by his son: Wayne Williard; an infant son: Doyle Dean Williard; and five brothers: Willis, Verne, Ray, Melvin, and Lawrence Williard.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 10:00 A.M., at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery southeast of Atlanta. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 P.M., on Monday May 21, 2012. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Roland's name for the Joy Home in Oxford, and for Rivercross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
