Obituary

Roger Joe Wilcoxen, 61, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2022, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Born April 13, 1961, in Winfield, he was the son of Jerry Lee Wilcoxen and Glayda Delores Toothaker. Roger was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. He then attended and graduated Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1983. He later went to work for the Department of Transportation for the State of Kansas. He worked as an Engineer for over 20 years before retiring. Following retirement, Roger worked various jobs, and was currently working for Smith & Oakes Construction in Arkansas City.

As a young man, Roger was a member of and grew up in Grace United Methodist Church and was also involved in 4-H for many years growing up. He was a member of the Winfield Masonic Lodge #110. He loved the zoo, especially the birds, and enjoyed camping, golfing, and skiing. He was skilled at working with his hands. Roger was a talented trumpet player and played for a jazz band and the city band.

His family includes his sister Teresa Woodward and husband, John of Wichita Falls, TX; his brother Thomas Wilcoxen of Arkansas City; his nieces and nephews, Molly (Harold) Armijo, Kerby (Monika Vasquez) Harms, Angeline (Frank) Frisch, Mary (Casey) Lee, Thomas (Lauren) Harms, Samantha (Matteo Schirro) Myatt, Robyn (Jonathan Jones) Myatt, and Briana Wilcoxen; many great nieces and nephews; and his step-mother Phyllis Wilcoxen of Winfield.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a brother Jack R. Wilcoxen.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation with the family is scheduled on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 P.M.

Memorials have been established in Roger's name for the Sedgwick County Zoo and for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
