Obituary

Roger Perry Van Loan, 77, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, September 6, 2019 at the Kansas Veterans Home.

Roger was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on July 14, 1942. He was the son of Frederick L. and Jennie (Mosser) Van Loan. Roger married his first wife, Yvonne and joined the United States Air Force right out of high school. He proudly served his country during Vietnam. Roger served for six years before being honorably discharged. Following the Air Force, the family lived in New York for a short time where he tested engines. He also lived in Puerto Rico and worked for a Christian radio station.

He studied religion and began his ministry in New York. He was a very active youth minister and choir director. He was much loved by the young people he worked with. He moved to Berwick, Pennsylvania where he pastored with the Christian Missionary Alliance for several years and built a new church. The couple moved to Montana and later back to Puerto Rico. Yvonne preceded him in death. He moved to Georgia to be near his children and met his second wife, Frankie. The couple were married nearly nineteen years before Frankie passed away. Roger moved to Kansas in 2010. He was united in marriage to Linda (Collins) Walker on April 1, 2012 in Wichita. Roger loved music and singing and had a wonderful tenor voice. He was also an avid Nascar fan.

His family includes his wife Linda of Harper; his children, Deanna Van Hersh and husband, Jonathan of Wichita; Gary M. Hitchcock of Rocky Mount, NC; Roger F. Van Loan and wife, Laurie of Orangeville, PA; his step-children, Shannon Hamilton and husband, Brad of Harper; Jim Walker and wife, Kaylynn of Harper; Laura DeChenne and husband, Stephen of Harper; his brothers, Ronny Perry of Newville, PA; Robert Perry of Fayetteville, NC; his sisters, Betty Goodfellow of Odum, GA; Lois Ritter and husband, David of Lewisberry, PA; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his son John M. Van Loan.

Graveside funeral services and military honors will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Roger's name for the Wounded Warrior's Project. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
