Roger E. "Biff" Chase, 71, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, December 21, 2018 at his home.
Born February 18, 1947, in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Gardner and Vera Jean (Darnell) Chase. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1966. After high school he attended Cowley County Community College and then Southwestern College where he played football. He joined the United States Navy on April 22, 1969, and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1973. In 1975 he began working for Boeing in Wichita. He later worked for Binney and Smith in Winfield as well as the Gott Corporation and Cessna.
Biff was united in marriage to Shelby Trent on June 18, 1988 in Arkansas City, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Arkansas City and Biff continued working for the Gott Corporation. He then returned to work at Boeing in Wichita, and in 2003 moved to Derby, Kansas. In March of 2016 Biff retired from Boeing/Spirit AeroSystems, and in 2017 moved back to Arkansas City to be near family.
He was a member of Aviator Church in Derby. He was also a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He enjoyed coaching baseball, fishing, and golfing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, and was an avid supporter of his grandchildren, attending all of the sporting events that he could.
His family includes his wife Shelby Chase of Arkansas City; His children, Ashley Bruce and husband, Scott of Nixa, MO; Trent Pappan and wife, Sara of St. Louis, MO; Casey Pappan and wife, Stacia of Arkansas City; Kris Chase and wife, Ali of Winfield; Justin Pappan and wife, Bronwyn of Lake Forrest, CA; Nick Chase and wife, Ashley of Mulvane; Brooke Peoples and husband, Kyle of Derby; his brother Arthur Chase and wife, Kim of Cordell, OK; his sister Lana Tovar of Winfield; and his 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Biff was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson, Spencer John Chase.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Arkansas City First Assembly of God Church. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. A visitation is scheduled for Friday evening December 28, 2018 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Arkansas City First Assembly of God Church. The Family will greet visitors that evening. Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Biff's name for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
