Obituary

Rodney T. Jennings, 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center surrounded by all his family.

Born August 17, 1951, in Arkansas City, Kansas, he was the son of Booker T. Jr. and Velva Beatrice (Watson) Jennings.  He was raised and received his education in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1969.  He then attended Cowley County Community College, receiving his Associates degree in 1971.  He then attended Friends University.  After school, Rodney worked for IBP and Rodeo Meats.

Rodney was married to Mary Laverne Frazier in 1973.  The couple was married for 20 years and had five children.  They later divorced.  He married Heike Brooks in May 1996.  The couple lived in Arkansas City and later divorced.  In 2012, he married Roxanne Massey.  The couple made their home in Winfield and had three children.

Rodney spent most of his life in healthcare, working for several area care homes.  He held many positions in healthcare including CNA, CMA, Activities Director, and Supervisor of Housekeeping.  A gifted Psalmist, he ministered to many of the residents he cared for through his love of gospel music.  He served as an associate pastor at Church of God in Christ and later an interim pastor at Hicks Chapel.

He was a member of Tisdale Methodist Church. Rodney met life with energy and enthusiasm.  Rodney was an entrepreneur, beginning as a paperboy when he was a teenager and recycling cans which he made a family affair.  He was also the owner and operator of Ideal Auto Detailing.  His passions included basketball, softball (Ebony Panthers), and bowling.  He was a player and a coach.  He also enjoyed playing the trumpet and guitar, cooking, playing Dominoes, and his jazz collection.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Roxanne Jennings of Winfield; his children, Valarie (Simon) Madondo of Winfield; Rosalyn Driver of Winfield; Kim Frazier of Arkansas City; Maria Jennings of Arkansas City; Rodney (Amy) Jennings, Jr. of Winfield, Jeremiah Jennings of Winfield; Noah Jennings of Winfield; Nadia Jennings of Winfield; a sister Lovie E. (Eugene) McCarty of Arkansas City; his brothers, Booker T. (Debra) Jennings, III of Arkansas City; Charles D. (Delphia) Jennings of Arkansas City; his step-children, Joshua Faatz and wife, Ashley of Pennsylvania; Montana Grove and fiance, Kaden Williams of Utah; Karee Britt of Winfield; his 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary Frazier, and a sister Velma J. Goree.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 3, 2023, at Tisdale Methodist Church.  Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.  A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service Thursday, November 2, 2023, from 4 to 8 P.M.  The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established with the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.  Contributions may be made payable to Miles Funeral Service.
