ROBERT O. SELEY, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, April 25, 2008 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.
Born on August 5, 1925 in Dodge City, Kansas, he was the son of Oscar and Rachel (Hopper) Seley. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. Robert had just received his honorary high school diploma on Monday, April 21, during a special ceremony held at the Kansas Veterans Home.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Seley proudly served his country in the United States Navy where he was a radio operator on the USS Thomas S. Nickel.
He was united in marriage to Deloris Ann McEachern on April 20, 1946 in Wellington, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winfield. He was employed at the Winfield Daily Courier for over 41 years and had served in nearly every capacity of the mechanical operations area. At the time of his retirement he was the mechanical superintendent. Mrs. Seley preceded him in death on July 26, 1995.
Robert was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winfield where he was very active and did volunteer work. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He volunteered at the hospital, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a former Boy Scout leader. His hobbies included painting his house, woodworking, carpentry, trout fishing and camping.

His sons: Gary Seley and wife Sharon of Flagstaff, AZ; and Steve Seley and wife Martha of Oklahoma City, OK;
His daughter: Bonnie Traynor and husband Warren of Kansas City, MO;
His brother: Harry Seley of Oklahoma City, OK;
His grandchildren: Shane Seley, Blane Seley, Kip Traynor and Stacey Traynor Sperry and;
His great-grandchildren: Mattie, Vivie, Catherine, Sophie, Robert and Brock.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman, Eldon, Delbert and Ronald; and his sister, Beulah Whelchel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, May 1st, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. Military committal honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 30, 2008. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.
Memorials have been established in Robert's name for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
