Obituary

Robert Ray "Bob" Roe, 76, of Winfield, Kansas, passed into eternity Friday, December 3, 2021, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Born March 15, 1945, in Newkirk, Oklahoma, he was the son of George W., Sr. and Marjorie Stella (Gottschalg) Roe. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in Grenola, Kansas, graduating from Grenola High School in 1963. At the age of eight years old, Bob accepted Christ and was baptized in the Caney River. Following high school, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country aboard the USS Bluebird. He was honorably discharged in 1969, and returned to Grenola.

He married Kathie Jane Hicks on October 5, 1973, in Winfield. The couple made their home in Wichita where Bob worked as a machinist at Cessna. He later began his career as a machinist at Tweco, where he remained for over 25 years until retiring. Jane and Bob had two children and in 1997 the couple divorced.

Bob was united in marriage to Marlys Gemmer on November 13, 2004, at the Grenola Methodist Church. The couple made their first home in Grenola until moving to Winfield in 2006, where Bob worked for Calmar.

He was a member of Grenola Christian Church and had been attending Cornerstone Bible Fellowship for 15 years. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, coaching summer softball, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

His family includes his wife Marlys of Winfield; his son Robert Jason Roe of Park City; his daughter Lisa Sartin and husband, Kevin of Arkansas City; his three grandchildren, Alexis, Chevelle, and Chevy; a great grandchild, Evelynn; a sister-in-law Sue Roe and family of Grenola; and two brothers-in-law, Vaughn Gemmer of Sutton, NE; and Vaden Gemmer and wife, Anne, and family of McPherson; nephews, Jim Roe and family of Grenola; Dennis Butler and family of Newkirk, OK; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde Roe, George Roe, Jr., and Don Roe.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Winfield. Interment and military committal honors will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Robert's name for Harry Hynes Hospice and Cornerstone Bible Fellowship Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
