Robert A. Reed, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Born June 25, 1932 in San Benito, Texas, he was the son of Ralph Lewis and Mary Kathryn (Gill) Reed. While he was young the family moved to Winfield where he was raised and received his education. After school Robert joined the United States Army where he proudly served his Country.

Robert was united in marriage to Betty R. Goodaile on December 22, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. Robert started his military career in the Army in the late 1940's. He served as a Combat Medic in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was stationed in France, Germany, New Mexico and in Fort Riley, Kansas. He served from 1949 until his retirement in 1975. After Robert retired from the Army, the family returned to Winfield where they made their home. He began a second career working for the Kansas Department of Transportation. He remained there until retiring in 1995. Betty preceded him in death on July 29, 2010.

Robert enjoyed being outdoors and always loved playing with the grandchildren, and later the great-grandchildren. He collected Hot Wheels cars, and shared his love of them with his great grandson Barrett. He also enjoyed collecting and working on watches. Robert enjoyed buying and selling all kinds of items at the Winfield Flea Market, where he made lots of good friends. He always enjoyed visiting with people. In March of 2011 he moved to the Kansas Veterans Home. He was very happy at the Veterans Home, and enjoyed all the good friends he made while there.

His granddaughter: Kimberly Randall and husband, Todd of Winfield;
His grandsons: Jeff McPherson of Lawrence; Justin McPherson and wife, Laura of Winfield;
His great granddaughters: Kylie and Emily Randall;
His great grandson: Barrett McPherson; with a second great grandson on the way;
His brothers: Marshall Martin and wife, Lola of Winfield; Maynard Reed and wife, Shirley of Arkansas City; and
Many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by, his wife Betty Reed, his daughter, Carrie Reed, a brother, Phillip Martin, and a sister, Ruth Ann Wengeler.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Friday, January, 11, 2013, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Robert's name for the Wreaths Across America program at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
