Obituary

Robert R. Powers, 61, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Thursday morning, March 10, 2016 at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover.

Born September 10, 1954 in Hutchinson, Kansas, he was the son of Raymond LeRoy Powers and Adora Marie (Tharp) Cortner. He was raised and received his education in Hutchinson. After school, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country as an Electrician in the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Bob moved to Lawndale, California to be near family.

While in Lawndale, he began working at Northurp in drafting. He later worked as an Electrician on the B1 Bomber, helping design the wiring diagram. He married his wife, Mary Powers in Las Vegas and to this union, four children were born. The couple later divorced. He moved to Modesto and worked in construction for Bell Electric.

Bob later moved to Hutchinson, Kansas to be near family. While in Hutchinson, he worked as a foreman for Hartman Manufacturing and later for Prairie Dunes Country Club as a Sous Chef for Herb Lewis. In 2001, Bob moved to the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield. He enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, and playing cards and Dominos.

His mother: Adora Marie Cortner of Hutchinson;
His brothers: Clifford Wayne Powers of California; Brian Powers of Hutchinson;
His sisters: Shirley Olson of Frazee, MN; Kathy Jacobson of Ruskin, FL; Toni Engelstad of Coons Rapid, MN; and
His five children: Robert, Jeremy, Jessica, Justin and Samantha.

Bob was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield.

A memorial has been established in Bob's name for the Kansas Veterans Home. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
