Obituary

ROBERT D. LUNDY, 80, of Burden, Kansas, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 8, 2014 at his home.

Born September 28, 1933 in Cambridge, Kansas, he was the son of Clayton and Cleo (Kempton) Lundy. He was raised and received his education in Cambridge and at the Masonic Home in Wichita. Bob graduated Cambridge High School in 1952.

He was united in marriage to Claudine Ring on July 6, 1968 in Winfield, Kansas. The couple made their lifelong home in Burden. He served in Japan during the Korean War as a corporal and was honorably discharged.

As a young man, Bob worked as a farmer and for Red Shore as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Later, he worked for Max Cannon at the Burden Elevator. He was a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. He worked for Smith and Moon in Strother Field and did forklift maintenance at Rubbermaid. He retired from Rubbermaid at the age of 74.

Bob was a volunteer fireman for the Burden Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years. Forty seven of those years he served as the fire chief. He was also a member of the Burden Masonic Lodge and had served as Secretary.

He was a member of the Burden United Methodist Church. He loved working for the fire department, watching old westerns, football, baseball and old cars. He also loved music, especially when Claudine played the piano and the frequent date nights with her.

His family includes:

His son: Tim Reeves and wife, Linda of Clearwater, KS;
His daughters: Jody Benning and husband, Andy of Owasso, OK; Kimala Means and husband, David of Tonkawa, OK; Cindy George and husband, Roy of Burden; and Charlie Weigle-Lemon of Fort Smith, AR;
His brother: Jim Lundy and wife, Pat of Burden;
His step-sister: Virginia Gray of Hays, KS;
His grandchildren: Sadie, Keegan, Ryan, Wesley, Michael, Jonathan, Steven, Matthew, Mary, Deborah, Rebecca, Rachel, Jesse and Breanna; and
His great grandchildren: Mila, Justin, Dixie and another in July of this year.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Cleo Lundy, his step-mother, Mildred Lundy and his brother, Fred Lundy.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Fireman, Masonic and Military Committal honors will follow at Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 5 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 that afternoon.

Memorials have been established in Mr. Lundy's name for the Burden Volunteer Fire Department, Burden United Methodist Church and for Harden Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
