Robert Earl Hovey, 83, of Winfield, Kansas passed away early Wednesday morning, February 18, 2015 at his home.
Born December 29, 1931 in Cambridge, Kansas, he was the son of Hubert and Alma Pearl (McClure) Hovey. He received his education in Cambridge and Grenola grade schools and graduated Winfield High School in 1949. He would later attend Southwestern College for a short time and Cowley County Community College, where he obtained several Associates Degrees.
Bob enlisted in the United States Navy on September 13, 1949 and served until 1951. He then moved to California for a few years. Upon returning to Winfield, he was united in marriage to Donna Beth Oliver on February 19, 1954. Mr. Hovey worked for the United States Postal Service for a short period as a mail carrier. Bob re-enlisted in the United States Navy and his career took the family to the Phillipines, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, California, Florida and Georgia. The couple returned to Winfield in 1976. He retired from the Navy in September 1977.
In the early 1980's he went to work for USD 465 and retired as District Maintenace Manager in June 1999. Mrs. Hovey preceded him in death on November 5, 2006.
He enjoyed antique toys, fishing, hunting, and wood carving. He also enjoyed going to flea markets and garage sales looking for silverware for his son's flatware sculptures. He especially enjoyed bowling and going for walks.

His daughter: Donna Smith and husband, Bobby of Winfield;
His brother: Kenneth Hovey and wife, Joan of Winfield
His 10 grandchildren: Joshua, Matthew and Sarah Hovey; David, Lark, Ruby and Casey Beth Hovey; Breianna, Emma and Luke Smith; and
His 2 great grandchildren: Belle and Elijah Hovey.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Hubert Hovey and his sister, Lorraine Beck.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.
A Memorial has been established in Robert's name for the National Parkinson's Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
